Step by step Guide to Install Windows 8 Developers Preview in Virtual Machine.

0

Microsoft just launched Windows 8 Developers Preview & here is a very easy step by step guide to Install Windows 8 Developers Preview via Virtual Machine.

I am installing Windows 8 Developers Preview via VM VirtualBox (You can install it with any other Virtual Machine, like VMware or Parallels. I am using Virtual Box because it’s free), & I will suggest you that if you are interested in Installing it, Don’t install it as a Primary OS, because it’s just a Developers Preview even not a Beta Version. They are making it better day by day. So it will be better not to install it as a primary OS.

Before Installing Windows 8 you must have these things downloaded & Installed. Obviously Windows 8 Developers Preview & Virtual Machine of your choice, Here I’ll prefer VirtualBox but you can download & use VMware Workstation & Parallels (These are Paid Software’s)

Step by Step Guide for installing Windows 8 Developers Preview

Step 1

Go to VirtualBox & Click on New button (See Screenshot for details)

Step 2

Just Click Next!

Step 3

Type in a name (ex: Techuncover or Windows 8 Developer Preview) for the virtual machine, select Windows 7 if have a 32-bit or Windows 7 (64-bit) if you have a 64-bit, then click on Next. (see screenshots below)

Step 4

Select or type in how much of your computer’s RAM (1024MB = 1GB) you would like for the virtual machine to use when it’s running, By default VirtualBox allocates 512 MB of RAM. Click on Next. (see screenshot below)

Step 5

Just Click Next (No need to change the settings here)

Step 6

Select VHD (Virtual Hard Disk), and click Next. (see screenshot below)

Step 7

Option Dynamically allocated is selected already, You just need to click on Next.

Step 8

Select how large you would like the VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) file to be, and click on Next. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: The default size is 20 GB, and is fine if you are not going to be installing a lot of software’s on the virtual machine.

Step 9

Click on the Create Button. (see screenshot below)

Step 10

Click on Create button to confirm!

Step 11

In the left pane, double click on the new virtual machine (ex: Techuncoer or Windows 8 Developer Preview). & than Click Next (see screenshot below)

Step 12

Click on the browse folder icon, select the downloaded ISO file of Windows 8 Developers Preview which you downloaded earlier, click on Open, and click on Start. (see screenshots below)

Step 13

Once the setup is loaded, hit Install Now, accept the license terms and hit Next.

Select Custom (advanced), select whichever disk it gives you (it will most likely say “Disk 0 Unallocated Space”) and hit Next

Once it’s done installing, go through the typical Customization/Setup Process..

That’s it, you’ve successfully installed the first Windows 8 Developer Preview in a Virtual Machine!

The Mango update to WP7 (Windows Phone 7 Series) will include 500+ new features.

0

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the next Windows Phone OS update codenamed Mango will bring more than “500 new features”. Speaking at a developers’ forum in Japan on Monday, Ballmer didn’t give away too many details about the update but promised to unveil more on Tuesday at a scheduled event in New York. Until then, we have a clue or two about what’s coming.

Ahead of a scheduled preview of Windows Phone 7 Mango in New York, Ballmer also teased about an announcement regarding several new devices. The WMPowerUser blog says it has received a tip saying that we can expect up to nine new WP7 devices from HTC, Acer, Dell and Samsung-but they won’t be on sale until the holiday season.

What’s coming up in Mango (Windows Phone 7.5)

Microsoft pre-announced several much-needed improvements to Windows Phone 7 to keep people’s minds off some troubles with software updates earlier this year. Third-party app multitasking is probably one of the biggest drawbacks in WP7, and Mango should fix that.

- The Xbox hub also gets a makeover

In addition WP7 codenamed Mango also include visual voice mail via the Open Mobile Terminal Platform protocol and also WiFi hotspot support via Microsoft’s own NCIS (Network Communication and Information Systems).

There are also a bunch of features Microsoft didn’t announce but were leaked in a developers’ podcast last week. These include Windows Live Messenger, Facebook Chat and AIM integration in the Messaging Hub. Turn-by-turn navigation is also on the table, along with SMS dictation and iPhone-like visual voicemail.

The Windows Phone 7 Mango update is expected to arrive later this year.

Let’s use an analogy. Vista was a step in the right direction for Windows design, but it was half-baked, poorly executed, and left everyone who used it wanting more. So it is with current WP7 phones, they are a movement towards a better future, but require refinement to really hit their stride. In other words, Mango is going to be Microsoft’s mobile Windows 7, the second try that fulfills the potential that the previous product never did.

With Nokia as the wind at its back, and with the massive new Mango feature set, Windows Phone should finally be ready to step into the ring with iOS and Android, two platforms that up until this update it could not quite handle.

We will have piles more on Mango come the 24th, when Microsoft is hosting a WP7 event to outline the phone line’s roadmap.

How to access all your Emails offline on a USB Stick.

0

How do you ensure that you always have access to all your emails – even at places where there is no Internet or when you aren’t carrying your own laptop?

One of the popular options is that you use a tool like Microsoft Outlook to download all your emails to the computer beforehand and you can then read them anywhere even in offline mode. Both Gmail and Hotmail offer POP3 access to help you download messages using any email client while there are easy workarounds for Yahoo Mail.

There are some downsides though. First, most email clients aren’t portable (can you carry emails on a USB drive?) and second, if all you want is offline access to your Gmail messages and nothing extra, Outlook is probably too heavy a tool for that purpose.

I have been testing a Windows-only utility called MailStore that seems like an ideal solution for such a problem – the tool is free, there’s a portable version for your USB stick and best of all, it works out of the box with your email account without requiring any configuration.

Step by Step – How to Backup your Emails

The way MailStore works is something like this. You install (or unzip) the software to a folder and then select the email accounts that you want to archive. They can be your Gmail accounts, Microsoft Exchange, your old Outlook PST files, Thunderbird and any other web email service that supports either IMAP or POP3.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 4

The tool will pull your email messages from all these places into a central location. If you have a large mailbox, you may specify criteria to skip emails that are older than ‘n’ days. It skips the Spam and Junk folders by default but you may also manually specify any folders /labels that you wish to include (or exclude) from the backup.

That’s it. There’s a convenient search box allowing you to search all your email accounts from one place. You can copy the MailStore folder to your USB drive, or even your Dropbox folder, and access all the emails from anywhere, anytime. Since this is more of an email backup utility and not a full-blown email client, it cannot be used for replying or sending new emails.

To quickly recap, here are some scenarios where you may find Mail Store useful:

0. You want to backup all your web mails to a safe location.
1. You want to carry your Microsoft Exchange / Outlook emails on a USB drive.
2. You have multiple email accounts and need to search all your mailboxes from one place.
3. You want offline access to all your web-based email accounts.
